Grand Falls Strong Presence
The Grand Falls Club was a mecca for badminton in its day and produced a number of provincial players. The Harmsworth Connection of the Grand Falls – Windsor Heritage Centre writes:
The Grand Falls Badminton Club was active in 1942 and started possibly as early as the 1930s, when GFA High on Memorial Avenue, with a new gymnasium, opened. This gym was the club’s home until the 1990s when the school was closed. The club was then moved to Notre Dame Academy, now Millcrest Academy.
Current and past residents of Grand Falls participating in the Provincial Championships included: Geoff Robinson, Jason George, Jay Powell, Rick Finn and John Gillam.
No women’s events again!
Due to the lack of entries, Women’s Singles and Women’s Doubles could not be played for the second year running. Opportunity knocks for any junior girls wanting to make an impact in Senior competition!
