23 players and five coaches took the opportunity to participate in a day of badminton training followed by an Invitational Tournament on Saturday and Sunday November 14 – 15, 2015 at Baie d’Espoir Academy in Baie d’Espoir.

Coaching in skills and tactics was provided by John Gillam, Competition Development Coach from Badminton NL. The intention of this weekend event is to provide beginner to intermediate instruction as well as an introduction to competition through a local tournament.

Local coaches including Nancy Oliver and Robin Power  from Baie d’Espoir Academy, Charlie Crewe from John Watkins Academy, as well as Rick Finn and Dr. James Coffey from Grand Falls – Windsor were also on hand for a Club Coaching Workshop on Friday night and to assist with the practical coaching on Saturday.

After a day of honing their skills the players put their new knowledge into practice during the Coast of Bays Invitational tournament on Sunday, which included all five events: boys’ and girls’ singles, boys’ and girls’ doubles, and mixed doubles, in age categories Under 15 and Under 19. Medals were awarded for the top players although it was a noticeably successful day for everyone.
